Jenson Button says that the rift between Red Bull's Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel will help the rest of the grid.

McLaren driver Jenson Button doubts whether Red Bull racers Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel can settle their differences after the controversial outcome of Sunday's Malaysian Grand Prix.

The pair have fallen out in the past, but the German further tarnished their relationship on his way to victory in Sepang after ignoring team orders before proceeding to attack and overtake his race-leading teammate in order to gain the triumph.

Despite picking up the win, Button feels that it is Vettel who will be affected the most in the aftermath to the incident.

"I think that will hurt Sebastian in the long run. We all want to win but Red Bull have to call the shots. So many times a team order has worked in his favour," Button told the Daily Mail.

"It can cause an issue. Even if they sit down and discuss it, it is not going to change the outcome. What has happened is still in their minds. It does not go away.

"When you have teams fighting it is exciting. Instead of worrying about all the other guys on the grid, they are worrying about what their teammate is going to do. Hopefully it does help us."

Button was forced to retire during the Grand Prix in Malaysia.
