Lewis Hamilton will start in pole position for Sunday's Italian Grand Prix ahead of his McLaren teammate Jenson Button.

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton will start in pole position at the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday.

The 27-year-old Briton clocked 1:24.010 in qualifying at Monza on Saturday.

Hamilton's McLaren teammate Jenson Button finished second, with Ferrari's Felipe Massa third.

Massa's Ferrari teammate Fernando Alonso could come only 10th despite being quick all weekend.

Force India's Paul di Resta ended fourth in the qualifying on Saturday, but he was given a five-place penalty for an unscheduled gearbox change.

Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher ended up in an encouraging fifth place, while his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg was seventh.

Alonso currently leads the championship by 24 points from 12 races.
