Lando Norris and McLaren have delivered one of their performances of the season to win Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix.
Starting in third spot on the grid, Norris soon dropped down to fifth position over the opening corners at a time when Oscar Piastri remained in the top two alongside Charles Leclerc.
However, an alternative tyre strategy to the other top contenders worked wonders for the Briton as he got his nose in front for the final quarter of the race.
Although a frustrated Leclerc dropped from first place down to fourth, Piastri remained within touching distance of his teammate and quickly closed during the final laps of the race.
The Championship leader provided himself with three chances to pass Norris on the opening corner, the best opportunities that he would get on a track where overtakes are notoriously difficult.
Nevertheless, Norris fended him off to seal an impressive win, reducing the deficit to the Championship frontrunner to nine points at a time when switching positions would have left a 23-point gap heading into the summer break.
What else happened in Budapest?
Leclerc's drop-off during the closing 20 laps left him angry on the team radio and his temperament cost him an extra five seconds when being penalised for how he attempted to prevent George Russell passing him for third.
The Ferrari driver subsequently ended 42 seconds behind Norris, emphasising the gulf in class between the teams when Lewis Hamilton finished down in 12th place.
Aston Martin duo Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll enjoyed a rare productive race for the 2025 season as they finished in fifth and seventh respectively.
Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto claimed sixth place between them, with Liam Lawson, Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli completing the top 10.
Russell's podium has moved him back to within 15 points of Verstappen in the race for third place in the standings. Leclerc is 21 points adrift of Russell with no direct competition behind him.
