Button handed penalty for causing crash

Jenson Button has been handed a five-second time penalty for causing a collision at the Chinese Grand Prix this morning.

The 2009 world champion went into the back of Pastor Maldonado's Lotus while the two drivers were battling for 13th place, forcing the Venezuelan to retire with damaged brakes.

The McLaren driver crossed the line in 13th, but the penalty puts him behind Toro Rosso's Carlos Sainz in 14th.

Defending champion Lewis Hamilton won the race ahead of Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg.
