Norris takes pole for Belgian Grand Prix, disappointment for Verstappen, Hamilton

Lando Norris has earned pole position for Sunday's Belgian Grand Prix ahead of McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri.

With Piastri finishing second ahead of third-placed Norris in Saturday's Sprint, the Briton needed a reaction as he bids to remain on the Australian's coattails in the title race.

That was achieved by going 0.085 seconds faster than Piastri at the end of Q3 as the McLarens took both positions on the front row.

Charles Leclerc will start in third having gone just 0.003 seconds quicker than Max Verstappen, who did not benefit from being the first to set his final hot lap.

Williams driver Alex Albon was last to set his time and finished a surprise fifth, demoting George Russell to sixth in the process.

With some high-profile names under-performing, it was Yuki Tsunoda, Isack Hadjar, Liam Lawson and Gabriel Bortoleto who completed the top 10.

More disappointment for Hamilton

Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton's frustrating weekend continued as he went out in Q1.

The seven-time world champion suffered the same fate in sprint qualifying and subsequently finished that race in 15th position.

In this instance, Hamilton's fastest lap in Q1 was deleted due to breaching track limits and the Ferrari man will start in 16th place.

Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli and Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso were 18th and 19th respectively, joining Hamilton in wanting to make quick progress on Sunday.
