Ferrari's Charles Leclerc takes pole position for Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix ahead of Championship rival Max Verstappen.

Championship leader Charles Leclerc has earned pole position for Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix ahead of rival Max Verstappen.

The Ferrari driver appeared to be struggling to post a competitive time in Q3 at one stage after a minor spin forced him back into the pits.

However, Leclerc, who holds a 19-point lead in the title race, delivered the goods on his hot lap at the end of the session as Verstappen claimed to lose power in his Red Bull.

Fortunately for Verstappen, he had already posted the second quickest time, ending up less than a 10th of a second ahead of Carlos Sainz Jnr in the other Ferrari.

In a boost for Mercedes, George Russell qualified in fourth ahead of Sergio Perez, with Lewis Hamilton completing the third row of the grid in sixth spot.

McLaren's Lando Norris had to make do with 11th position after having his fastest time in Q2 scrapped for exceeding track limits.
