Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Carl Ikeme suffers 'minor injury'

Carl Ikeme injury 'not serious'

Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has flown home from the club's pre-season training camp in Clairefontaine, France.

The 29-year-old suffered a minor knee injury which the club insist is not serious.

His place in France has been taken by young keeper Harry Burgoyne.

"Carl has got a problem with his patella tendon which is a long-standing thing and something we have been managing for a long time," Wolves head of medical Phil Hayward told the club website.

"Normally it is not a problem for him but sometimes when he comes back into training, especially after a period when he hasn't played – in this case the close season – it can flare up.

"It's not a major problem and is just something that will put him out of training for a few days while it settles down and then he will go again next week."

Wolves' Championship season begins away at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, August 8.
