Borussia Dortmund stunned by Wolfsburg fightback

Dortmund stunned by Wolfsburg fightback

Wolfsburg have produced a fine second-half display to beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1, recovering from a Marco Reus opener to claim their fourth successive Bundesliga victory.

Dortmund had started brighter but failed to create any clear-cut opportunities early on, with Marcel Schmelzer and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang both firing wide with drives from distance.

Ivan Perisic then headed wide for the hosts against his former club, before Dortmund lost defensive stalwart Neven Subotic through injury.

Jurgen Klopp's side recovered from that setback to break the deadlock with the final kick of the first half, as Reus curled a controlled free kick into the top corner from 20 yards.

Wolfsburg responded strongly to that setback after the break and levelled on 56 minutes when Ricardo Rodriguez saw his cross from a set piece curl beyond Roman Weidenfeller and into the corner.

Soon after things went from bad to worse for the visitors, with Ivica Olic finding room inside the box to rifle home from close range.

Dortmund pressed for an equaliser and almost levelled instantly form another Reus free kick, but his effort struck the woodwork as the Wolves held on to close out a famous home victory.
