Uwe Rosler: 'Referee was right to abandon match'

Wigan Athletic manager Uwe Rosler praises referee Keith Stroud's decision to call off his side's Championship clash with Sheffield Wednesday due to a waterlogged pitch.

Wigan Athletic manager Uwe Rosler has said that referee Keith Stroud made the correct call when he abandoned the Latics' Championship clash at Sheffield Wednesday.

James McClean fired the visitors in front in the first half, but the game came to a premature end after the hour mark due to a waterlogged pitch.

"I've no complaints. The referee did the right thing," Sky Sports News quotes the German as saying.

"Safety first for the players for both teams. I felt that when you have so much water on the pitch that Nick Powell can't convert a one-on-one with the keeper because the ball's stuck in the water, I think the referee didn't have a choice but to call it off.

"I think the referee was very good. In the first half when more rain came and settled on the pitch, I thought he was excellent and it was the right decision."

A date for the rescheduled fixture is yet to be announced.
