Owen Coyle explains to the media why he decided to return to management with Championship side Wigan Athletic.

Owen Coyle has revealed that he accepted Dave Whelan's offer to manage Wigan Athletic because it was the "right job" for him.

The Scot had been out of work since October 2012 when he was sacked by Bolton Wanderers following a poor run of results.

Speaking at his first press conference since his appointment to the Wigan helm, Coyle revealed that while he had received "seven or eight offers" since leaving Bolton, none of them had compared to the one on the table from Wigan.

"I've had seven or eight opportunities to get back in management but I've been waiting for the right club," said the 46-year-old.

"I feel that this is the right job and I'm really looking forward to start working at this fantastic club.

"I hope to be judged on the job I do here rather than my past and I'm looking forward to success here."

Coyle went on to admit that he would need to bolster his squad at the DW Stadium if they are to stand any chance of an immediate return to the Premier League.

"The chairman has backed managers in the past to bring players and we need to add to an already talented squad," he added.

Over the weekend Coyle was linked with a loan move for Manchester United midfielder Nick Powell.
