Preview: Southampton vs. West Ham United

Sports Mole looks ahead to the midweek Premier League showdown between Southampton and West Ham United.

Southampton head into this week's home clash with West Ham United looking to maintain the good form that has cemented them in the top four of the Premier League.

The Saints have won four of their last five in the league and bounced back from a surprise defeat to Swansea City with a 1-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers at the weekend.

Manager Ronald Koeman is unlikely to make extensive changes after his side's return to winning ways, but Morgan Schneiderlin is pushing for a place in midfield after serving as a substitute against QPR.

Recent signing Filip Djuricic is also in contention to feature in some capacity, while Ryan Bertrand's suspension paves the way for youngster Matt Targett to continue at left-back.

West Ham also have European aspirations, heading into the match in eighth place in the table, but have been in indifferent form of late with just one win in their last six in all competitions.

However, the Hammers were denied an impressive victory over Manchester United in their last outing, with a stoppage-time effort from Daley Blind ensuring the match finished 1-1.

Manager Sam Allardyce could recall Andy Carroll for the Southampton meeting after the striker failed a late fitness test ahead of their draw with the Red Devils.

Carl Jenkinson, James Tomkins, Cheikhou Kouyate and Mark Noble are expected to keep their places after impressing against United.
