West Ham United reveal Nikica Jelavic regret

West Ham reveal Jelavic regret

West Ham United's assistant manager Neil McDonald has revealed the club's disappointment in missing out on Nikica Jelavic.

The Croatia international rejected a move to Upton Park and joined Everton in January from Rangers.

Since then, Jelavic has been a revelation for the Toffees, scoring 17 goals for the side. McDonald admitted that West Ham were unfortunate not to land the 27-year-old, but claimed that they are now happy with Andy Carroll.

"There was a definite interest there and we did speak to him. Obviously he went to Everton and scored goals and proved he can play in the Premier League," said McDonald.

"When we saw him at Rangers we thought he could score goals in the Premier League and he's proved that. That's Everton's gain.

"You are always disappointed when you don't get players who come into the Premier League and do well but we got Andy Carroll so there is a little bit of a pay-off there."

The Hammers will come up against Jelavic in the Premier League clash against David Moyes's side on Saturday.
