Troy Deeney: 'I thought West Ham United tried to mug us off'

Deeney: 'West Ham tried to mug us off'

Watford skipper Troy Deeney has suggested that the prospect of being embarrassed inspired his side to come from behind in order to beat West Ham United 4-2 in the Premier League this afternoon.

Slaven Bilic's side charged into a 2-0 lead in the first half when Dimitri Payet set up Michail Antonio for his second goal of the afternoon by producing a rabona, only for the Hornets to grab two goals either side of the half-time break to seal a memorable comeback.

"As a player I thought they were trying to mug us off a little bit," Deeney told BBC Radio 5 live.

"You can appreciate good skill and that was great skill for the second goal but as a professional you cannot allow someone to do that to you.

"You see that in the playground with six- and seven-year-olds and we are grown men. There were some harsh words said to each other and everyone had that fire in their belly again."

Watford currently hold 10th spot in the league standings after four games played.
