Phil Brown surprised by Sam Allardyce situation at West Ham United

Brown issues Allardyce backing

Phil Brown has admitted that he does not know why West Ham United have not offered a new deal to manager Sam Allardyce.

Southend United boss Brown was assistant to the 60-year-old at former clubs Blackpool and Bolton Wanderers before deciding to forge his own managerial career.

It has been reported that the hierarchy at Upton Park are keen to make changes before they move to the Olympic Stadium in 2016, with Allardyce among those to leave, but Brown believes that the Hammers would regret dispensing of his services.

"You can't argue that he's done anything else at West Ham. Whether you like him or loathe him, it doesn't matter. He's done exactly what he said he would do - get them promoted, keep them in the Premier League and then challenge. He's done it," Brown told The Mirror.

"For him not to be rewarded with another contract is just beyond me. I think that's the reason why the season has begun to peter out and taper off."

Allardyce has been West Ham boss since 2011.
