West Bromwich Albion close to Shane Long capture

Reading striker Shane Long is close to joining West Bromwich Albion in a £6.5m transfer.

The 24-year-old Republic of Ireland international has been courted by a number of Premier League clubs during pre-season but it now appears the Baggies have captured his signature.

Long, who scored 28 goals as Reading reached the Championship play-off final last season, will sign a four-year deal worth £25,000-a-week.

The former Cork City centre forward will become West Brom's record signing.
