West Bromwich Albion 'to name Alan Irvine's successor by weekend'

West Brom 'to appoint Irvine successor by weekend'

West Bromwich Albion are reportedly expected to appoint a new manager by the weekend following the dismissal of Alan Irvine.

The Baggies announced on Monday night that Irvine had been relieved of his duties at The Hawthorns following Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Stoke City, which has left the club just one point above the relegation zone in the Premier League table.

Former Tottenham Hotspur coach Tim Sherwood is believed to be an early favourite for the post, which is expected to be filled before the end of the week, according to Sky Sports News.

West Brom, who will take on West Ham United on New Year's Day, have secured just four victories out of 19 league games this season.
