Garry Thompson: Tim Sherwood is "perfect" for West Bromwich Albion

Former West Brom striker Garry Thompson says that Tim Sherwood represents the "perfect" candidate to replace Alan Irvine at The Hawthorns.

Tim Sherwood would be the "perfect" replacement for Alan Irvine at West Bromwich Albion, according to former striker Garry Thompson.

The Baggies parted ways with Irvine on Monday as Albion hover just one point above the relegation zone.

West Brom have reportedly identified former Stoke City manager Tony Pulis as the man to lead the club to safety this season.

However, Thompson, who spent two years at The Hawthorns until 1985, says that the ex-Tottenham Hotspur boss is the ideal candidate.

"He'd be perfect," he told the Birmingham Mail. "He'd shake the place up but I am surprised they have gone for him because he will not shy away from things and he is not afraid to speak his mind, whatever the situation.

"I don't think the Chairman at West Brom has had that for a little while. With Tim there is always a danger that he will come out and say: 'I'm not having that,', or 'I'm not happy with that'... or blah, blah, blah.

"If you take Tim on board you take him warts and all. He will not just sit there and shut up. He will say what needs to be said."

The 45-year-old is reportedly keen on the Crystal Palace job following the sacking of Neil Warnock last week.

Sherwood has been out of management since being sacked by Spurs at the end of last season, despite boasting a higher win percentage than any other Tottenham manager in the Premier League era.
