West Bromwich Albion's Saido Berahino glad to move on from transfer saga

West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino says that he is pleased to be able 'to put the past behind him' following a difficult period at The Hawthorns.

Saido Berahino has revealed that he is pleased to be able to put the past behind him after helping West Bromwich Albion to a 3-2 victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old has had a difficult last 12 months at West Brom after failing to secure a move away in either last summer's transfer window or January, despite strong interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

The striker, however, admitted earlier this week that he 'regrets' the events that have unfolded at The Hawthorns.

The Englishman then made his point on the field on Saturday as he scored West Brom's third and what proved to be winning goal against Palace.

"I can only thank God. I've been through a lot this season but I've put the past behind me. I was just out there enjoying myself," Berahino told BBC Sport.

"As a footballer you just want to go out and show what you're about, that's what I've done today. I tried to contribute as much as I can. It was a really important win for us.

"We worked really hard after defeat to Reading and came out in the first half, got the three goals, but we were disappointed to concede two in the second. We've been working hard at trying to link up, today we clicked and it's a good sign. You can see the strong character we have as a team."

The win for West Brom moved Tony Pulis's side into 13th position in the Premier League table.
