Gareth Barry "disappointed" by refereeing decisions in West Brom defeat

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Gareth Barry has admitted that he is "disappointed" that some refereeing decisions did not go his team's way following defeat to Arsenal.

The 36-year-old made Premier League history on Monday night by making his 633rd appearance, surpassing Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs as the player with the most top-flight games under his belt.

The outcome was not what Barry would have wished for, though, as Alexandre Lacazette scored twice on either side of half time to give Arsenal a 2-0 win at the Emirates.

Controversially, the Baggies were denied an eighth-minute penalty from referee Bobby Madley when Shkodran Mustafi brought down Jay Rodriguez in the box.

"It would have been great to have come away with a positive result but we can't ask more of the team," Barry told BBC Sport. "The lads up top created a lot of problems for them, disappointed a couple decisions didn't go our way. There are a lot of positives to take from the game."

When asked about for his thoughts on breaking the Premier League appearance record, Barry said: "It was something different this week, having a lot of media attention. It will be nice to put this milestone to bed. I've not really given it too much thought about who is behind me. There is so much concentration on what you are doing."

The Baggies are currently 12th in the league table.
