Ariel Jacobs: 'Valenciennes to be my last job in football'

Valenciennes coach Ariel Jacobs announces that managing his current club will be his last job in football, as he plans to retire by 2016 at the latest.

Valenciennes coach Ariel Jacobs has said that managing his current club will be his last job in football, as he plans to retire by 2016 at the latest.

The Belgian manager took over from Daniel Sanchez in October of last year and is currently under contract at the Stade du Hainaut until 2015, with the option of staying at the club for a further year also in the offing.

"When you are 40, you are prepared to accept things in the middle of the season, but you see things differently at my age," said 60-year-old Jacobs, according to Ligue1.com

"Human relationships [with the players] demand a lot of energy. This job is more than about being a simple coach.

"There comes a time when you need to make space in your diary for other things."

Valenciennes are currently fighting for Ligue 1 survival, with Jacobs and his men sitting in 18th place in the league table.
