Abby Wambach: 'It's not about revenge'

USA Women striker Abby Wambach has insisted that tonight's Women's World Cup final showdown with Japan is not about revenge for her or her teammates.

The two sides will meet in Vancouver for what is a repeat of the 2011 final - a match which Japan won on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

While admitting that the final four years ago left her 'heartbroken', Wambach has claimed that this evening's encounter does not carry too much emotional baggage.

"Heartbreak never goes away but now we have an opportunity, and it's not about revenge or avenging that loss because this team is different," the 35-year-old told CNN.com

"I feel an air of confidence, but we don't overlook Japan for one second because they are very, very organized and a good team."

Wambach has scored 183 goals in 247 appearances for the USA, making her the highest ever international goalscorer in both the men's and women's games.
