Team GB 1-1 AET Korea (Korea win 5-4 on penalties)

Team GB are eliminated from the Olympics after losing 5-4 on penalties to Korea in the quarter-finals this evening.

Team GB have been knocked out of the Olympics after losing 5-4 to Korea on penalties this evening.

Korea began the match strongly and took the lead on the half hour mark when Jack Butland misjudged Ji Dongwon's long-range effort.

Team GB responded immediately, and were awarded the perfect chance to level the sides just five minutes later when Ryan Bertrand's shot was handled in the box by Oh Jaesuk. Aaron Ramsey stepped up and fired his shot under the keeper.

Just four minutes later Britain were awarded another spot kick when Daniel Sturridge was brought down in the box, but this time keeper Jung Sungryong got enough on it to deny the Arsenal man.

Korea came closest with five minutes left in a second half of few chances when Ji headed the ball back across goal, but it drifted just past the post as the match went into extra-time.

Sturridge began the first half of extra time well for Britain, dancing into the box but his cross just eluded Ramsey. Korea responded with a double chance of their own, first Jacheol Koo tested Butland before Ji headed over from close range.

Ji had another chance towards the end of the first period of extra time when a cross found him completely free inside the Team GB area, but he could only nod his chance well over the bar.

There were no chances of note in the second period of extra time as the game went to penalties. Both sides scored their first four penalties, but Sturridge's fifth was well saved before Korea scored their fifth and final spot kick to take the win.

Korea will now face Brazil in the semi-finals on Tuesday.
