Half-Time Report: Swansea City take control at Sunderland

Swansea take control at Sunderland

Swansea City are on course to sign off their season with a stylish win after two goals in seven minutes gave them a comfortable lead at Sunderland.

The Welsh club made the brighter start with Jonjo Shelvey and Wayne Routledge getting into good attacking positions for the visitors, but their crosses into the box were cut out by Vito Mannone.

It wasn't long before the Swans took the lead thanks to some neat footwork from Nathan Dyer and, after beating two defenders, he rifled his effort into the top corner.

Within 14 minutes, City has doubled their advantage when Marvin Emnes displayed good close control before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the roof of Mannone's net to score his first Premier League goal.

Moments later, Swansea were almost out of sight when Wilfred Bony set up Shelvey, but the midfielder miss-hit his shot at the crucial moment.

Sunderland nearly pulled a goal back before the half-hour mark when a Sebastian Larsson cross was inadvertently turn onto the post by Jordi Amat, with Neil Taylor clearing away the loose ball. As half-time approached, the Black Cats had a great chance to score when Connor Wickham put his header wide.

Moments before the break, Gerhard Tremmel needed to be alert to tip over Phil Bardsley shot, but the Swansea shot-stopper was rare troubled in the opening period.
