Ryan Shawcross happy at Stoke City

Stoke City captain Ryan Shawcross insists that he does not want to leave the club in order to boost his England chances.

Stoke City captain Ryan Shawcross has revealed that he is happy at the club and does not want to leave in order to further his international career.

Reports have suggested that the defender could move elsewhere this summer to boost his chances of playing for England.

Shawcross, 27, made his only senior appearance for the Three Lions during a friendly against Sweden back in 2012.

However, the centre-back insists that he is eager to remain at the Britannia Stadium for at least the next three years.

"I feel like I'm playing well enough to get in the squad, but unfortunately I've not been picked," he told Sky Sports News. "There are a lot of good centre-halves out there so it's going to be difficult, but all I can do is my stuff on the pitch.

"Hopefully if I play well enough I'll get back in that squad, and if not then I've tried my hardest and hopefully played well.

"In football you never know - a team might come in and make an offer, the club might accept it and then you've got a decision to make - but until Stoke City accept an offer I'm a Stoke City player. I'm very happy, I've got three years left on my contract and it looks like I'll be seeing them out."

Stoke return to Premier League action on Saturday when they face relegated Burnley at Turf Moor.
