Mark Hughes expecting quiet January

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes says that he will not be in the market for any permanent signings in the January transfer window.

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes has said that he is expecting a quiet January transfer window, revealing that he is saving money for the summer.

Back-to-back victories against Everton and West Bromwich Albion have restored the feel-good factor at the Britannia heading into the New Year.

The Potters sit 11th in the Premier League table, eight points adrift of a top-four spot, but Hughes says that he may tighten the purse strings to boost his budget during the off-season.

"We might look at the loan market but we're not close to anything really at the moment,' he told the Daily Mail.

"I wouldn't have thought we'll be spending anything significant in the January window.

"We're better served keeping what finances we have available ready to go into the market in the summer. I think that would be our best policy."

City face Manchester United on New Year's Day at the Britannia.
