Adam: 'Begovic won't leave to be back-up'

Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam has admitted that teammate Asmir Begovic could leave the club this summer, but only to become first-choice goalkeeper elsewhere.

The 27-year-old stopper has been linked with a move away from the Britannia Stadium, with Liverpool reportedly interested and Arsenal also mooted as a potential destination.

Adam says that the Bosnian will be careful when he makes a decision on his future at the end of the season.

When asked if he felt that Begovic could play for a top-four side, Adam told talkSPORT: "Yeah. He's a top goalkeeper. All of those clubs have goalkeepers though.

"Wherever he goes, he has to make the right decision. He had the opportunity to go to Chelsea a number two a couple of years ago, and he refused that because he wants to play. It's a big decision on where he goes."

Begovic joined Stoke from Portsmouth in 2010.
