Peter Whittingham: 'Cardiff City deserved victory'

Cardiff midfielder Peter Whittingham says that his teammates deserved victory after drawing 1-1 with Stoke today.

Cardiff City midfielder Peter Whittingham believes that the Bluebirds deserved all three points in the 1-1 draw with Stoke City in South Wales today.

Marko Arnautovic had given the visitors a narrow half-time lead from the penalty spot, before Whittingham also struck a spot kick to level matters and earn the Welsh outfit a point in their relegation fight.

Consequently, Cardiff stay 18th in the Premier League table, two points adrift of Norwich City, and the Englishman describes upcoming away days to Sunderland and Newcastle United as "huge" for their survival hopes.

He told BBC Sport: "We felt we controlled the game. A few nice chances we should have put away, on the balance of play we deserved a bit more but a point is a point.

"It is not ideal but we didn't lose and we have two away games that will be huge for us."

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men face the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light next Sunday.
