Stoke City's Charlie Adam delighted to make decisive impact

Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam admits that he was elated to play the crucial part in firing his side to a 2-1 win over Southampton.

Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam has revealed his delight about making a decisive impact to fire his side to victory against Southampton.

The Potters were forced to come from behind to claim the three points as Morgan Schneiderlin fired Ronald Koeman's men ahead in the first half, but Mame Biram Diouf equalised early in the second period.

Adam arrived from the bench and found the net in the 84th minute to clinch the win for Mark Hughes's side to end a run of three straight defeats.

He told the club's official website: "It's nice to keep scoring and win the game. It was disappointing to be on the bench and I think it was a great way to react by not starting the game.

"Whether I start or come off the bench, I will always try to make an impact. Southampton are a good side with a good manager and very good players. We found it difficult with the way they wanted to play, but I thought second half we chased the game a little bit more and got ourselves back in the game early on.

"It probably wasn't one of our best games but we dug deep, showed the right attitude and got the victory."

Stoke are ninth in the Premier League with 46 points from their 33 games this season.
