Stoke City's Mark Hughes "pleased" with players' performance in Doncaster win

Hughes "pleased" with Stoke performance

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has praised his team's performance following their 2-1 win over Doncaster Rovers in the third round of the FA Cup this afternoon.

The Potters were made to work for the victory after Nathan Tyson cancelled out Peter Crouch's 15th-minute strike in the first half.

They were able to do so as Jonathan Walters struck in the 57th minute to ensure a place in the fourth round of the competition.

"It was a good cup tie," Hughes told reporters. "Doncaster played well with a good quality of ball into our box, and we had to defend manfully at times.

"It was two great goals that won us the tie and we're delighted with that. We made a lot of changes and we weren't as fluent as we know we can be, but the guys that came in did well. A number of them haven't had games for a number of weeks so I was really pleased with what they put up today."

Stoke will return to Premier League action on Wednesday when they face Norwich City at the Britannia Stadium.
