Jordan Archer 'to return to Tottenham Hotspur in January'

Northampton Town manager Chris Wilder confirms that on-loan keeper Jordan Archer will return to Tottenham Hotspur in January.

Northampton Town have decided to send on-loan goalkeeper Jordan Archer back to Tottenham Hotspur in January.

Archer sat out the Cobblers' home defeat to Plymouth Argyle last weekend due to suspension, with Matt Duke stepping in.

The 37-year-old retained his starting place for the trip to Carlisle United on Saturday, while Dean Snedker was recalled from a loan stint at Brackley Town to sit on the bench.

Town manager Chris Wilder confirmed that Duke will be first-choice stopper for the remainder of the season and the money spent on Archer's wages will be used elsewhere in the team.

He told the Northampton Chronicle & Echo: "We've made the decision to go with Dukey for the rest of the season. We feel that you work with a budget and it's not a problem for us to have him in goal.

"We'd like competition in every area but I might have to put a bit of money somewhere else and I don't see it as an issue to have Matt in goal. Matt has done well when he has played."

Northampton are currently 19th in the League Two table.
