Bournemouth's Eddie Howe is Tottenham Hotspur's number one target to replace Mauricio Pochettino should the Argentine leave for Manchester United, according to a report.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe is reportedly Tottenham Hotspur's number one target to replace Mauricio Pochettino should the Argentine leave the London club for Manchester United.

Pochettino is believed to be United's first choice to replace Jose Mourinho, who was sacked on Tuesday morning with the Red Devils making their worst ever start to a Premier League campaign.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to take the position until the end of the 2018-19 season, before United appoint a long-term replacement for the outgoing Mourinho.

According to the Daily Mail, Spurs are aware that Pochettino's head could be turned by the lure of Old Trafford, and Howe will be the 'leading contender' to take over at the London club.

Howe is in his second spell as head coach of Bournemouth and has led the Cherries to ninth and 12th-place finishes in the last two Premier League seasons.
