Sergio Ramos withdraws from Spain squad

Sergio Ramos has withdrawn from the Spain squad ahead of this week's Euro 2016 qualifiers.

The 28-year-old went off injured in the first half of Real Madrid's 5-0 win over Athletic Bilbao at the weekend.

Medical tests have since shown that he has picked up a calf injury and his place in the squad will now be taken by Barcelona defender Marc Bartra.

"Spanish National Team defender Sergio Ramos will leave the training camp due to a calf injury in his right leg," read a statement on the national side's official website.

"The said injury was detected after the medical tests carried out at the Clinica Sanitas in La Moraleja. Marc Bartra will join up with the squad."

Spain are due to face Slovakia on Thursday, before playing Luxembourg on Sunday.
