Southampton join Alexander Buttner chase

Southampton are thought to have joined the race to sign Vitesse Arnhem midfielder Alexander Buttner.

Fellow Premier League clubs Fulham and Queens Park Rangers had been linked with a move for the 23-year-old, with the Cottagers favourite to land the Dutchman.

"England or Germany, they are both fantastic leagues," The Mirror quotes Buttner as saying. "At the moment I can't say more, I have to wait.

"I still have one year left on my Vitesse deal, so a new club first has to agree on a transfer fee."

Buttner is also believed to be on the radar of Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.
