Manchester United target hints at summer Southampton exit

Nathaniel Clyne hints that he will quit Southampton during the summer unless the Saints secure Champions League qualification.

Southampton defender and reported Manchester United target Nathaniel Clyne has revealed that he is desperate to play for a Champions League club.

The right-back, 24, is expected to leave the South Coast club this summer after reportedly rejecting their attempts to extend his contract, which expires in 2016.

Ronald Koeman left him out of Saturday's 2-0 win over Hull City, with United and Chelsea among those said to be monitoring his situation at St Mary's.

Koeman's side sit five points off the pace in the race for a top-four finish, and Clyne hints that he will leave unless they bridge that gap and reach the Champions League.

"It's always good to have teams looking out for you, it shows how well you've been doing all season," he told Sky Sports News. "I am going to take that, and keep on performing and be the best player I can be.

"Right now I'm concentrating on playing for Southampton, there are still games to play, and try to push for that fourth spot.

"I am an ambitious person and I want to play Champions League football. To win the title and the FA Cup, that is what I want."

Southampton travel to Stoke City on Saturday hoping to further boost their top-four hopes.
