Virgil van Dijk: 'Fraser Forster sold Southampton to me'

Virgil van Dijk reveals that former Celtic teammate Fraser Forster played a part in his move to Southampton.

Virgil van Dijk has revealed that former Celtic teammate Fraser Forster persuaded him to swap the Scottish side for Southampton.

The Dutch defender will team up with the England goalkeeper again after completing his move to the Saints on the final day of the transfer window.

Van Dijk spent a season with Forster at Celtic before the stopper joined Southampton last summer.

"I speak with Fraser quite a lot. He told me all about the place and how good it is," van Dijk told Southampton's official website.

"It gave me a great feeling and I'm so delighted that everything is now done. I speak with him even before everything was going on, but lately a little bit more. He's a good guy and hopefully he can get fit soon."

Van Dijk has signed a five-year deal at St Mary's.
