Wesley Hoedt has accepted that Southampton's 1-1 draw at Brighton & Hove Albion was a fair result but believes that his side should have done more to win the game.

Saints took the lead in the seventh minute through Steven Davis's second goal of the season but were pegged back by Glenn Murray's second-half strike.

When asked about the outcome of the game, Hoedt told Sky Sports News: "Yeah, I think it was fair. It wasn't what we wanted though.

"After the goal we went quickly the other way. We went back instead of pushing forward and I didn't understand that. We need to work on it.

"I needed to do a little bit of adapting as I haven't played for a few weeks. I want to play and put in good performances.

"We have dropped far too many points and we have to work hard to win some more games."

The result at the Amex Stadium sees Southampton edge up to ninth in the Premier League table.
