South Korea snatch win over Cuba in opening group U20 World Cup clash

A late goal ensured that South Korea have begun their Under-20 World Cup campaign with a victory over Cuba in Group B.

Cuba took an early lead in the encounter with an eighth-minute header from Maykel Alejandro Reyes courtesy of some build-up play from Hector Morales to set up the goal.

After breaking the deadlock early, Cuba had the chance of doubling their lead 12 minutes later, but the effort struck the post to keep the scoreline at 1-0 leading into the break.

Following the half-time interval, South Korea picked up the pace and found themselves with a chance to level after referee Cuneyt Cakir awarded a penalty.

Kwon Changhoon stepped up to the spot to hammer the ball into the back of the net in the 51st minute to leave it all square with 40 minutes left to play.

Korea dominated the remainder of the second half, and their work paid off as Kang Sangwoo fed the ball to Ryu Seungwoo, who knocked the ball into the net to give his side maximum points.
