Sheffield Wednesday take American defender Shane O'Neill on trial

Championship side Sheffield Wednesday have taken young American defender Shane O'Neill on trial.

The 21-year-old will hope to impress the Owls after two seasons of regular MLS football with the Colorado Rapids.

"This opportunity is too good to pass up," he told the Rapids' website. "Anytime you get a chance to train with a club like this, it's massive, and I'm excited to see how much my game has grown."

Born in the Republic of Ireland, O'Neill represents USA at international and had his first senior call-up earlier this year.
