Liam Palmer acknowledges new Sheffield Wednesday coach Carlos Carvalhal's input

Liam Palmer praises new manager Carlos Carvalhal after his arrival at Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Liam Palmer has praised new manager Carlos Carvalhal after moving to Hillsborough.

Portuguese Carvalhal arrived in Sheffield after former manager Stuart Gray's abrupt departure two months ago.

"It's been great," Palmer told the Sheffield Star. "He's been trying to get his ideas across to us in training since he came in. "We've been doing double sessions and triple sessions, working really hard. He's got some good ideas. It's an exciting time for the club with new players coming in.

"Sessions are different. He likes us to work at our maximum and then he'll give us a couple of minutes between sessions which allows you to get your breath back. He wants us to do everything with real quality.

"He wants whoever is playing full back to get wide and get forward. He wants the centre backs to split, the full backs up and for us to really stretch the pitch and use as much space as possible. That's music to my ears."

Carvalhal masterminded the Owls to a 5-0 pre-season win over St Mirren on Saturday and Palmer, 23, is the longest-serving Wednesday player under him.
