Sheffield United see off Mansfield Town

Sheffield United beat Mansfield Town 2-1 to book their place in the second round of the League Cup.

Sheffield United are through to the second round of the League Cup after a 2-1 win against Mansfield Town at Bramall Lane on Wednesday evening.

Andy Butler missed a great chance for the Blades when he headed over from close range just after the half-hour mark, before Samuel Clucas spurned the visitors' best attempt moments later.

Butler then gave his side the lead when he headed home seven minutes after the restart following a good delivery from Ben Davies's corner.

However their lead lasted three minutes, and the visitors had their equaliser when Alex Fisher slotted into the bottom corner.

With the game heading towards extra time, Marc McNulty popped up with five minutes remaining to seal the Blades' passage into the second round.
