Gordon Strachan scared of finishing bottom

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan declares that fear of finishing bottom of Group A will motivate his side against Macedonia tonight.

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan has declared that a fear of finishing bottom in their World Cup qualifying group will motivate his side to give everything against Macedonia tonight.

The Scots have endured a disappointing qualifying campaign, winning just one of their eight games to sit bottom of Group A with just two matches left to play.

Strachan played in the last Scottish side to finish bottom of a qualifying group in 1984 and is adamant that he has no plans to repeat that feat while in charge of the current team.

He told The Telegraph: "I wouldn't like it. I just wouldn't like it, so we have to do our best to make sure it doesn't happen.

"If it does happen, I'll tell you how it feels then but I don't want to think about it. It scares me to think that it would happen."

Scotland have travelled to Skopje without a pair of key players for tonight's clash, with Charlie Adam and Jordan Rhodes both sidelined through injury.
