Scotland's Gordon Strachan: 'Win over Czechs shows we can become a decent side'

Scotland boss Gordon Strachan says that his team can become a "decent side" after they sealed a 1-0 win over Czech Republic in Prague on Thursday night.

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan has claimed that his team can become a "decent side" following their victory over Czech Republic in Prague on Thursday night.

The Scots claimed their second win in seven internationals against the Czechs thanks to a 10th-minute goal from Ikechi Anya.

Scotland are not preparing for this summer's European Championships as they failed to qualify, but they are shaping a team for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, which begin in September.

"After a slow start in the first half I thought the Czech Republic played very well but I think we allowed them to play," BBC Sport quotes Strachan as saying. "I thought [Allan] McGregor was fantastic.

"We didn't close people down. Once we sorted that out in the second half and passed the ball it became a different game. The group have made it a good night. We are not a great side but we can turn ourselves into a decent side by working hard. It was great learning in the first half about how small things can change a game.

"The players can be pleased with themselves, I don't think anybody needs to be worried about their performance."

The result has given Strachan back-to-back wins for the first time since March 2014.
