Maarten Stekelenburg wants more first-team action

Stekelenburg frustrated with lack of action

Roma goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg has admitted that he will have to think about his future with the Italian club after losing his position as the first-choice goalkeeper.

The Netherlands international, who has been replaced by Mauro Goicoechea, is unhappy that he has not had an explanation from Roma coach Zdenek Zeman.

"I became a keeper to play, not to stay on the bench," he told Sport-promotion.nl. "I must think also about the future.

"Why have I lost my place? I don't know because I never had an explanation. I never spoke with coach Zdenek Zeman.

"I thought it was totally pointless buying Goicoechea, considering we already had Bogdan Lobont in the squad. What was the need for a third goalkeeper? I want to play, not stay on the bench."

Stekelenburg has been linked with a move to Fulham in recent weeks.
