Manchester City are expected to be on red alert as Daniele De Rossi's contract talks with Roma break down.

The midfielder, who has entered the final six months of his current deal, is likely to be available at the end of the season, with Premier League challengers City tipped as favourites to land the star.

"Now he can sign with anyone and everyone, including Roma," the Daily Star quotes Roma manager Franco Baldini as saying.

The North West have been linked with the playmaker over the past month.

Recent reports claimed that the Italian would only sign a new deal with Roma if a release clause were implemented.
