Keith Hill: 'Rochdale won't rely on loan players'

Rochdale manager Keith Hill says that the club will not rely on loan players next season.

Rochdale manager Keith Hill has said that they will not rely on the signing of loan players next season.

He feels that the League One club was let down by the loan system last campaign, after Brentford recalled defender Jack O'Connell before the end of the season.

"I feel we were hindered at times last season by one or two decisions that went against us," Hill told the Manchester Evening News.

"Injuries we can't avoid, but when we lost Jack O'Connell in the manner we did - back to Brentford - that really cut us in half for the last month of the season.

"That was really disappointing because we had a verbal agreement with Brentford and it was such a shame. We don't want to be held to ransom by parent club and that's why I will always fight against the loan system."

Rochdale have already signed defender Jim McNulty and striker Lewis Alessandra on permanent deals this summer.
