Bradford knock Sheffield United out of JPT

Bradford have recorded their third straight penalty shootout victory in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy to upset Sheffield United at Brammall Lane.

The Bantams, who move through to the semi-finals of the competition involving teams from Leagues One and Two, have now defeated three of League One's top five in this year's competition - all via penalty shootout.

United's local rivals Sheffield Wednesday were the first to fall in August before Huddersfield suffered a similar fate at the start of last month.

In Yorkshire this evening Matt Phillips put the Blades ahead midway through the first half before Bradford skipper Michael Flynn levelled proceedings.

There is no extra time period in the competition so the match went straight to penalties and with the sides level at five apiece, United's Erik Tonne saw his penalty saved before Chris Mitchell went on to convert and complete another surprise result for the Bantams who are currently 20th

The draw for the semi-final stage takes place on Saturday.
