O'Shea withdraws from Ireland squad

John O'Shea has pulled out of the Republic of Ireland squad for next week's friendly against Spain due to personal reasons.

The defender has not flown out to America with his teammates because of a family bereavement.

A spokesman for the Football Association of Ireland said: "The FAI, the Irish team management, backroom team and players all offer their sincere condolences to John O'Shea on the death of his Uncle, Jimmy O'Leary, in Waterford this morning."

Ireland play Spain at the Yankees Stadium in New York on Tuesday.
