Hoolahan 'proud' of Ireland performance

Republic of Ireland midfielder Wes Hoolahan has declared that he is proud of his team's performance during their 1-1 draw with Sweden in their Euro 2016 opener.

The Norwich City man, who was on target for Ireland during the match, insisted that his side were unlucky to miss out on maximum points.

"To get a goal for Ireland in the Euros is a great achievement," he told BBC Sport. "The boys were unlucky but we'll take the point. We created a lot of chances. In the first half we were excellent and at the start of the second half as well. The boys should be proud of themselves.

"It's a great point in the end. We will look forward to playing Belgium next, watch tonight and see how it goes."

Sweden salvaged a point thanks to an own goal by Ciaran Clark with less than 20 minutes remaining.
