Harry Arter ruled out of Euro 2016

Republic of Ireland midfielder Harry Arter has been ruled out of Euro 2016 with a thigh injury.

The 26-year-old suffered an injury-hit campaign for Bournemouth this season, missing five months of action with an ankle issue and making just 22 appearances for the Cherries.

Arter sustained a thigh problem in training yesterday, and scans today revealed that the injury is serious enough to keep him out of this summer's tournament in France.

Manager Martin O'Neill, who is also sweating over the fitness of Robbie Keane, is expected to name his final 23-man squad for the tournament after tonight's friendly against Belarus in Cork.

Ireland begin their campaign against Sweden on June 13 before facing Belgium and Italy in Group E.
