Result: New York 0-1 LA Galaxy

Mike Magee's 15th-minute strike was enough for LA Galaxy to claim a 1-0 advantage over the New York Red Bulls in the first leg of the MLS Western Conference semi-final series last night.

The 27-year-old latched on to a pass from former England captain David Beckham to score the only goal of the game from inside the penalty area.

Red Bull striker Thierry Henry missed two chances to draw the home side level in snowy conditions at the Red Bull Arena.

Republic of Ireland international Robbie Keane went close to extending Galaxy's lead late in the game, but he shot into the side netting after rounding Frank Rost in goal.

Frustrations boiled over after the final whistle, resulting in Rafael Marquez being sent off for the Red Bulls, while Juninho also saw red for Galaxy.

The sides meet again at the Home Depot ground on Friday.
